Bad Guys by Linwood Barclay
Bad Guys by Linwood Barclay is the 2nd in the Zack Walker series.
Even after the second one in this series, I’m still on the fence with the comedy/mystery genre. I don’t have a problem with the mystery angle at all. Barclay is really good at that genre. He’s fine with the comedy too…I just don’t like comedy books.
Okay, that’s out of the way. Zack is back trying to protect his family from all the evils and dangers in the world. He is also now working as a features writer for the same paper that his wife works for. You can see where this could go so wrong. While researching his first piece on break-ins of high-end clothiers, he is working a stake-out with PI Lawrence Jones. Poor Lawrence. You would think Zack, with no training, would be the one in danger. Meanwhile, on the home front, he is concerned that his son may be drinking, and he definitely doesn’t like his daughters new boyfriend. So of course he will handle those things as well. Did I mention that to solve the problem of having only one car, he goes to a car auction where he purchases something he shouldn’t have.
As much as the genre is an issue for me, Linwood Barclay is a really good writer.
