Harry Potter and the Cursed Child by JK Rowling with Jack Thorne and John Tiffany
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is the 8th in the Harry Potter Series. This is actually a 2 part stage play written by JK Rowling with Jack Thorne and John Tiffany.
There was a lot of hype, a lot of excitement, and a lot of hope. There was a lot to live up to.
19 years have passed since the Deathly Hallows and the defeat of Voldemort, but in the Potter home, there is still conflict. Harry and Ginny have three children, James, Albus and Lily. Albus and Harry are not “clicking”. Being the son of the great Harry Potter is a lot to live up to, and it seems that Albus tries to defy Harry and the “legacy he never wanted” at every opportunity. He blames his father for everything that goes wrong in his life, and Harry is getting frustrated. Albus finds a kindred spirit in Scorpius Malfoy, none other than Draco’s son, thereby twisting the knife a little deeper into his dad. Scorpius has a problem living up to his family name as well. Much to the annoyance of both of their fathers, they become best friends.
When Amos Diggory and his niece Delphini show up at the Potters to try and convince Harry to use a newly confiscated Time-Turner to go back in time and bring back his son Cedric, Harry says no. Albus and Scorpius decide that since Cedric’s death was Harry’s fault, they will correct one of the many wrongs that Harry made. With Delphini’s assistance, they steal the time-turner and go back to the TriWizard Tournament to prevent Cedric from participating, and therefore prevent him from dying.
If they had been paying attention, they would know you can’t play with time. Disastrous things happen. And so they did.
Overall, this book/script was a success. The characters are still good. Hermione fits her new role as Minister for Magic, with husband Ron running the joke shop Weasley’s Wizard Wheezes. Draco Malfoy is not the spoiled child he once was, and although he and Harry have their moments, in the end both Harry and Draco are trying to be loving parents, but struggling with the role of fatherhood, as neither had a true father figure to learn from. Albus and Scorpius are just typical teenagers trying to find their way.
I admit I did not like the beginning. I didn’t want to read about what a bratty kid Harry and Ginny produced. That didn’t last long. The more I read, the better the book became. Some people have complained that they didn’t like reading a script. A few pages in, I didn’t even notice. It was a good, fast read.

“it’s time that time-turning became a thing of the past.”
“Perfection is beyond the reach of humankind, beyond the reach of magic. In every shining moment of happiness is that drop of poison: the knowledge that pain will come again. Be honest to those you love, show your pain. To suffer is as human as to breathe.”
“That thing I said to you — it was unforgivable, and I can’t ask you to forget it but I can hope we move past it.”
