Sweetheart by Chelsea Cain
Sweetheart by Chelsea Cain is the 2nd in the Archie Sheridan detective series.
I love this series. I love the characters. Poor Archie, who seems to be in love with a serial killer; Henry, his mentor, who just wants to protect him; Susan, a bulldog of a reporter with ever changing hair colours; her Mom, Bliss Mountain, who has a peace sign somewhere…..and Gretchen, the killer herself, who seems to have a soft spot for Archie, but still wants to kill him.
Archie has been trying to get his life back on track. He has moved back in with his family. He is trying (not very successfully) to reduce his pain killer usage. He is trying to work, and he has stopped his weekly prison visits to Gretchen Lowell, the psycho Beauty Killer who caught and tortured him.
Susan, our ace reporter, is still working the Molly Palmer case, and swears it will be published, no matter who in the political arena goes down.
Then the senator and Susan’s co-worker are killed in a car wreck. Bodies are found in the woods. And Gretchen Lowell has escaped from prison. It’s okay. Archie has a plan, but since he’s also a little suicidal, it may not be the best one.
I cannot get enough of this series. Chelsea Cain has created such unique and lovable characters. Their interactions are perfect, and often hilarious.
Highly recommend these books.
