Audrey Rose by Frank De Felitta is the story of young Ivy Templeton who appears to be the reincarnation of Audrey Rose, the beloved daughter of Hoover.

I read this as a teenager, and was fascinated. Re-reading this, I find I am still fascinated, and a little creeped out by the idea of another man coming into this family and taking their daughter as his own.

The telling of the tale was wonderful. Ivy’s nightmares of burning in a car wreck were vivid. The grief of both Janice and Hoover were spot on.

I didn’t particularly like Ivy’s father Bill, but I know he was just trying to protect their family…until he didn’t.

I loved this book, even in the re-reading, 40 years later
